What Are Thermal Imaging Cameras?
Thermal Imaging Cameras are able to measure an object’s temperature at high accuracy in real-time. They enable quick detection of elevated skin temperatures. They are capable of discovering and tracking people’s body temperature in crowded public areas. Thermal imaging equipment can also easily be installed and implemented in places such as airports, hospitals, clinics, office buildings, cruise ships, and any large public gathering location.

Benefits of Thermal Cameras for Ports

No Contact
The person who handles the thermal imaging system is not required to be physically close to the person being evaluated. In fact, the person who handles the thermal imaging system could be in a different area or room.

Accurate
Scientific studies show that, when used correctly, thermal imaging systems generally measure surface skin temperature accurately. This is very helpful as the fever has been proven to be
one of the most common symptoms of COVID-19.

Efficient
The thermal imaging system may measure surface skin temperature faster than the typical forehead or oral (mouth) thermometer that requires a close distance or physical contact with the person being evaluated. This makes access and traffic flow faster and smoother.

Chile Port Coronel uses Dahua Thermal Scanners for COVID-19
Chile’s Port Coronel, the third-largest port of the country, was the first port in the country to install thermal cameras at the post. The thermal cameras for ports, which are made by Dahua Technologies, are placed at the main access and logistics center of cargo. The cameras are intended for detecting fever (one of the most common COVID-19 symptoms) among workers and carriers entering the terminal. "Our priority now is to be able to keep our operations in a safe way for the health of all workers," stated Javier Anwandter, Puerto Coronel general manager. Chile and the port management made sure that the newly added preventive measures will not compromise the port activity. Image Courtesy of Seatrade Maritime News
FLIR Thermal Cameras Raise Security Level at Port of Ravenna, Italy
When the Port of Ravenna management installed FLIR thermal and multi-sensory cameras, it was to enhance the port's security at night time. Now, as the pandemic COVID-19 threatens the world, the thermal cameras for ports are being used to detect elevated body temperature among workers. The Port Authority of Ravenna has the task of allocating, planning, coordinating, promoting and controlling, port operations and other commercial and industrial activities taking place in the port. It invests heavily in the port to improve its infrastructure and to extend its service offerings, in order to reach the highest quality standards.
